Job Overview:

The Wood Finisher is responsible for preparing, sanding, staining, and finishing wood products to meet quality and design specifications. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and expertise in using finishing tools and materials. The ideal candidate has experience working with wood surfaces, a strong understanding of finishing techniques, and a commitment to producing high-quality craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities:

Surface Preparation & Finishing:

  • Sand, smooth, and prepare wood surfaces for staining, sealing, and finishing.
  • Apply stains, sealers, lacquers, paints, and varnishes to achieve the desired finish.
  • Mix and match colors, stains, and finishes to meet project requirements.
  • Repair or touch up damaged or uneven finishes as needed.

Quality Control & Inspection:

  • Inspect finished products for quality, ensuring consistency in color and finish.
  • Identify and address imperfections or defects in wood surfaces before and after finishing.
  • Maintain high standards of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Tool & Equipment Operation:

  • Operate and maintain finishing equipment, including spray guns, brushes, buffers, and sanders.
  • Safely handle chemicals, solvents, and finishing materials in accordance with safety standards.
  • Clean and maintain work areas, tools, and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Production & Efficiency:

  • Follow production schedules and complete projects on time without compromising quality.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure seamless workflow and project completion.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials used, work performed, and finishing processes.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and hazardous material handling regulations.
  • Report any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor immediately.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2   years of experience in wood finishing, cabinetry, furniture production, or a related field.
    • Proven expertise in staining, sealing, painting, and finishing wood products.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Ability to mix and match stains and finishes to meet project specifications.
    • Proficiency with hand tools, spray guns, and other finishing equipment.
    • Knowledge of different wood types and how they react to various finishes.
  • Attention to Detail:
    • Strong eye for color, texture, and detail to ensure quality results.
    • Ability to inspect and troubleshoot imperfections in finishes.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs).
    • Comfortable standing for extended periods and working in a workshop environment.
    • Capable of handling repetitive tasks and fine motor work with precision.

Education & Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Formal training in woodworking, carpentry, or finishing techniques preferred.
  • Certification in safety or hazardous material handling is a plus.
