Job Description

The lab test engineer is responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing laboratory tests on materials, components, or systems to ensure they meet quality standards. They identify potential issues and contribute to product development by providing data through rigorous testing procedures. The engineer often utilizes specialized equipment and works closely with research and development teams. Key duties include developing test plans, operating test equipment, recording data, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining the integrity of the laboratory environment.

Key responsibilities:

Test plan development:

Create detailed test plans outlining test procedures, parameters, and acceptance criteria based on product specifications and project requirements.

Test execution:

Operate and calibrate specialized laboratory equipment to perform various tests on materials, components, or systems, ensuring proper data collection and recording.

Data analysis:

Analyze test results, identify trends, and interpret data to assess product performance against established standards.

Defect reporting:

Document and report any deviations from specifications or identified defects, collaborating with engineering teams to address issues.

Equipment maintenance:

Regularly maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Troubleshooting:

Diagnose and troubleshoot issues encountered during testing, identify root causes, and propose corrective actions.

Quality control:

Adhere to established quality standards and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Collaboration:

Work closely with engineers and other stakeholders to understand project goals, share test results, and contribute to product improvement.

Required skills:

  • Technical expertise: Strong understanding of relevant engineering principles, test methodologies, and laboratory techniques specific to the industry.
  • Data analysis skills: Proficiency in data analysis tools to interpret test results and generate meaningful reports
  • Problem-solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and identify root causes

Education and experience:

  • 10+ years of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or a related field OR relevant experience
  • Hands-on experience with testing equipment and fabricating test fixtures is a must.

Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and regulatory requirements (if applicable)
