Systems Integrator & DBA

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) , the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 79,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced Systems Integrator & DBA for our Tysons (McLean), Virginia office. The Systems Integrator & DBA ensures that the Association’s various Information Technology systems operate at their maximum potential while keeping applications as responsive as possible to ALPA’s user departments. The primary role will be to administer the Association’s databases, utilizing a variety of tools to aid in the ongoing support of development, quality assurance, and production databases. This position works in conjunction with the applications development group to ensure the structure and design conform to the Information Technology Department’s standards. They provide both support and analysis for a variety of Information Technology projects and services.

Work requires appreciable originality and imagination, with some latitude for un-reviewed actions and/or decisions. They perform work with minimum supervision, conferring with senior staff and their supervisor on unusual problems. May need to travel, as required, to support remote offices.

To excel in this role, the candidate must possess strong analytical skills, be detail-oriented, and have a solid understanding of database management systems, software development life cycles, and cloud computing environments. Effective communication skills are essential as the position involves collaborating with various departments and stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation and maintenance of IT solutions.

The Systems Integrator & DBA will also be responsible for staying current on emerging technologies and industry best practices to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Association’s IT infrastructure. This proactive approach will help in anticipating potential issues and implementing preventive measures to maintain optimal system performance and data integrity.

Local travel: 5 - 10%.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information security, or related field, from an accredited college or university required; master’s degree or completion of post-graduate courses in related field preferred; or, the equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience in Information Security or related field required, ten (10) or more years strongly preferred.
  • A demonstrated ability to perform at an outstanding level in lower position levels.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, for effective interaction with all levels of contacts, internal and external.
  • Must be a self-starter with professional maturity and sound judgment, capable of independent decision-making.
  • Must possess exceptional time management skills; be able to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment; and, transition easily between projects.
  • Solid writing skills and an ability to write documentation for internal use.
  • Expertise with all editions of Windows Server, Windows desktop operating system software (multiple versions), SharePoint Online, and Teams.
  • Expert knowledge in Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Managed Instance, PowerShell, Azure, and O365.
  • Experience with Aptify and/or Cloud Suite Financials (CSF) as well as Internet and web application design/development may be a plus.

Occasionally required to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve binders, books, boxes, and files up to ten (10) pounds (lbs.). While on travel, could be responsible to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve luggage weighing as much as 50 lbs. (Assistance may not always be available.)
