General Summary of Position Collects and processes patient specimens for laboratory testing. Performs special collection and specimen processing procedures. This is a part-time role, requiring 24 hours per week, with working hours from 4am to 12:30pm on varying days, including rotating weekends. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Greet patients, verify patient identity, and collect blood specimens using routine phlebotomy techniques (e.g., venipuncture, heelsticks, fingerstick). Ensure patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction during procedures. Ensure the integrity of blood specimens through accurate selection of collection tubes and proper technique; exercise good judgment in choosing collection procedures and sites; ensure timely and accurate collection and delivery of specimens. Receive specimens and input test requests into Cerner based on Invision or physician orders; centrifuge and process specimens as required. Handle managed care samples according to department protocols. Perform special draws from fistulas and grafts as assigned; follow protocols for glucose tolerance tests as needed. Adhere to all department policies and procedures; document phlebotomy and specimen processing procedures, as well as quality assurance issues, according to protocol. Provide training in phlebotomy and specimen processing to students, laboratory staff, residents, or other personnel as needed. Maintain adequate supplies of phlebotomy materials; keep the work area organized and sanitary at all times. Minimum Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required. May require up to 1 year of specialized training, such as a phlebotomy training program and fistula/graft draw procedures training. Experience 0 to 6 months of experience required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to read and write; knowledge of grammar and arithmetic, including fractions and decimals. May require use of standard office/medical equipment (e.g., computer, calculator, blood pressure cuff); ability to prepare, compare, and check reports and data; basic knowledge of formulas, charts, and tables.
