Job Description

Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers. Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems and other integrated healthcare providers may also consult with and advise healthcare team on prescribed medications, supplies and related processes. This position is located in Wausau, WI with PAM Rehab Hospital of Wausau. We are looking for a full-time Pharmacy Manager to cover Monday through Friday 8AM to 4:30PM and on-call hours as well. The Manager, Pharmacy coordinates, directs, manages, facilitates, and oversees the execution and evaluates all administrative and clinical activities. Through the optimization of procedures, this role ensures consistent and efficient delivery to control costs, minimize waste, optimize customer relationships and deliver positive patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with Federal and state regulatory agencies. Along with maintain inventory control and budget, this role is responsible for staffing, monitoring staff activities, performance and achievement of individual and departmental goals. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, directing and evaluating all clinical and administrative activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including supervision of refilling machines, medical prescriptions database entries, dispatch of medicines, scheduling of pharmacy technicians tasks, monitoring process compliance and monthly reporting. Implements processes and procedures to comply with regulations for medicine handling including reception and storage of medicines, inventory and expenses controls. Manages day to day activities of the pharmacy technicians and monitors their performance to meet departmental goals. Communicates with nursing, doctors and administrative areas to provide alternatives and supervises preparation of intravenous drugs in absence of medicines. Maintains pharmacist’s certifications and database privileges and access controls to medical records. Provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist. Assesses and maintains pharmacy inventory and executes necessary orders, including reviews, to maintain optimal supply and ongoing availability of drugs, identifying and procuring alternative drugs to mitigate risks when necessary. Leads hiring, onboarding, and performance management of pharmacy staff including competency evaluations. Manages internal workflows of acute pharmacy, optimizing staffing and scheduling. Participates in hospital committee meetings to ensure coordination among cross-functional groups. Assists in plans for lowering costs, increasing efficiency and driving profitable growth to support strategic business objectives. Assumes responsibility for Quality Assurance monitoring and completing End of the Month reports as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy. Qualifications include being a licensed Pharmacist in good standing in Wisconsin, inpatient/hospital pharmacy experience preferred, IV experience preferred, strong leadership and communication skills, ability to work on call, and customer/vendor credentialing. The role requires excellent planning, organizing, leadership skills, and ability to perform under pressure.
