Reports to: Executive Director

Status: Full-Time, non-exempt

Pay Rate: Annual salary range of $83,250 - $94,500 (based on 40 hour work week)

Definition:

The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) is responsible for identifying, cultivating, assisting with soliciting, and stewarding donors capable of making significant financial contributions to Open Heart Kitchen. This position will focus on growing individual giving at the $5,000+ level while working closely with the Executive Director, Board members, and other stakeholders to build meaningful relationships with donors.

The MGO will play a critical role in prospect identification, tracking donor engagement, managing major moves management, and ensuring a seamless donor cultivation process. This position requires a data-driven approach to donor stewardship and strong proficiency in Salesforce to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of donor activities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Develop and Manage a Major Gifts Portfolio

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors with the capacity to give $5,000+.
  • Conduct prospect research and maintain a strong pipeline of potential major donors.
  • Partner with the Executive Director to develop engagement strategies and create meaningful donor interactions.

Moves Management & Donor Cultivation

  • Implement a structured major gifts strategy that includes prospect tracking, cultivation events, and donor recognition.
  • Work closely with Board members and staff to leverage relationships and enhance donor engagement.
  • Ensure that donor communications and solicitations align with the mission and fundraising priorities.

Salesforce & Data Management

  • Utilize Salesforce to track donor relationships, activity history, and prospect movement through the pipeline.
  • Generate reports and analyze donor trends to inform strategy.
  • Ensure data integrity and provide training/support as needed for team members using Salesforce.

Planned Giving & Stewardship

  • Collaborate with financial advisors, estate planners, and donors to cultivate planned gifts.
  • Design and implement effective stewardship strategies to retain and grow major donor relationships.
  • Develop customized donor experiences that foster long-term engagement.

Corporate Sponsorships & Event Support

  • Assist in securing corporate sponsorships and partnerships for key fundraising initiatives.
  • Participate in planning and execution of special events that engage major donors.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience managing a major gifts portfolio and securing donations of $5,000+.
  • Strong expertise in Salesforce CRM – must be proficient in donor data tracking, prospect management, and reporting.
  • Experience with moves management and donor cultivation strategies.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and ability to engage with high-net-worth individuals.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to craft compelling donor messaging.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in nonprofit fundraising, business, or related fields.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on major gifts.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate with executive leadership.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets).
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
  • Must pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with planned giving strategies and estate gifts.
  • Experience securing corporate sponsorships of $20,000+.
  • Background in donor events and engagement experiences.

Working Conditions: 

  • Occasional evening and weekend work required.
  • Must be able to travel locally for donor visits, networking, and events.
  • Hybrid work environment available for consideration
