EXTENT OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Immediate supervisor outlines assignments. The Histotechnician is directly supervised by the Histology Supervisor, indirectly supervised by the Director of Anatomic Pathology and works under the professional direction of the Pathologist. After training, minimal direct supervision should be required for the person who is competently handling the routine essential functions of this position.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Histotechnician I
Histotechnician II
Histotechnician III
Education:
Bachelor of Science Degree preferred
Bachelor of Science Degree preferred
Bachelor of Science Degree preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
HT or HTL certification preferred
HT or HTL certification preferred
HT or HTL certification required*
*BS or >15 years’ experience may be substituted in place of certification
Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment to set up and perform routine and specialized histology tasks, including the use of a light microscope, tissue handling, and slide preparation. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook). Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Experience:
Minimum one year experience using histology techniques
Minimum five years’ experience using histology techniques
Minimum 10 years’ experience using histology techniques
