General Function - The Director of First Christian Preschool is under the Lead Minister’s supervision. The Director will manage and direct all aspects of the preschool including early childhood development and faith formation for children of all backgrounds and abilities. This person will also be charged with ensuring the preschool meets all applicable laws, rules, policies and safety procedures.
The Director also leads the day-to-day operations of the preschool, including curriculum development, staff orientation and development, as well as staff management, marketing and communications, recruitment and enrollment, family relations, budget management, safety planning and regulatory compliance.
The Director is charged with creating a safe, attractive and motivational environment for preschool-age children and their families. This person welcomes families of all faiths and backgrounds and ensures that the preschool offers a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum that sponsors opportunities for learning.
The Director must be a team player who is called to educate children and who is willing to carry out the vision and mission of the church. This person will be able to work with teachers and families as an innovative and collaborative leader and build strong relationships by maintaining a positive and flexible attitude.
This person will be highly organized, an excellent communicator and able to exercise prudent judgement in all types of situations. They will be able to work independently and possess a strong work ethic.
Entry Requirements/Qualifications:
● Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education.
● Five years experience in a preschool or child care setting.
● Two years management experience.
● Certifications in Early Childhood Education, CPR, First Aid, Health & Infectious Disease Prevention.
● Submit and pass the Kentucky National Background Check as required by the Division of Regulated Child Care.
● Physically and mentally capable of caring for a large group of children.
● Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70lbs.
● Be comfortable with a computer and general office equipment.
Staff Oversight:
● Serve as the lead for all employees including teachers, subs, support staff, etc.
● Interview, hire and guide new teachers, subs, and support staff, etc
● Provide staff orientation at the beginning of each school year.
● Observe teachers in the classroom regularly and offer advice on classroom leadership, team collaboration, curriculum implementation, parent relationships and adherence to the mission of First Christian Preschool.
● Lead regular monthly staff meetings.
● Work with teachers to set professional goals and education plans.
● Seek continuing education opportunities for all staff.
● Conduct formal performance reviews of preschool staff annually.
● Identify and document personnel problems within the preschool and take appropriate action.
Marketing, Student Recruitment and Enrollment:
● Develop marketing, advertising and recruitment plans as needed to maximize student enrollment.
● Provide an orientation session for families prior to each school year.
● Conduct tours for prospective families and manage the enrollment process and materials.
● Manage room assignments, classroom sizes and follow teacher-to-child ratios.
● Provide students opportunities for participation in and/or attendance at various community educational and arts programs.
Communication and Family Relations:
● Develop communication strategies for keeping families informed of relevant information.
● Serve as a liaison for parents and teachers.
● Coordinate and oversee drop-off and pick-up of children.
● Solicit family and teacher feedback and coordinate periodic family surveys.
● Ensure website and social media platforms are maintained and used regularly.
Church Relations:
● Meet regularly with the Lead Minister of First Christian Church.
● Serve as a liaison between Preschool and First Christian Church.
● Coordinate and direct special programs for both student and parent involvement. (Christmas and end of school year)
● Attend First Christian Church monthly staff meetings.
Business Management:
● Formulate and submit an annual budget based on operations, tuition plan, and staff compensation for review.
● Post monies received, weekly deposits, and maintain detailed records in conjunction with the policy of First Christian Church.
● Follow up on delinquent accounts and turn over to Credit Bureau Systems when necessary.
● Make purchases when necessary for items
○ Food, drink in accordance with guidelines established by the Division of Regulated Child Care.
○ Teaching curriculum and supplies
○ Classroom furnishings
○ Playground equipment
○ Electronic equipment
● Report playground repair and upkeep need to the church administrative assistant.
● Report facility repair and upkeep needs to the church administrative assistant.
● Set tuition and registration fees annually.
● Provide both in-person and electronic access to registration materials for prospective families
● Advertise as necessary and feasible.
● Propose any significant changes to the Preschool program to the First Christian Church Leadership.
Health and Safety:
● Maintain both student and staff records as needed and required by the Division of Regulated Child Care.
● Lead classroom activities when appropriate and necessary.
● Monitor children as needed for disciplinary issues and report to family.
● Report suspected child abuse to as required by the Division of Regulated Child Care and First Christian Church.
● Develop and oversee emergency preparedness plans, drills, training, incident reporting, etc.
Comments:
● This is a 40+ hour work week with extra hours compensated.
○ Must be available as early as 7:00 a.m. and as late as 5:30 p.m.
○ There may be some weekends or week night for special events/activities sponsored by the school.

● The Preschool Director will receive an annual performance review by the Lead Minister as head of staff, and a final review by the Board.
● Compensation is reviewed annually by the Board.
