Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Engineering Manager is responsible for providing technical support to customers and engineering expertise to the manufacturing plant to deliver a world class hydraulic cylinder solution. The Engineering Manager will generate innovative ideas for new systems and designs, process layouts, estimating, customer service and will be responsible for the general supervision of an engineering team. The Engineering Manager is a part of the senior leadership team at Great Bend Industries and will be expected to align the company’s vision and strategy with daily operations and lead the engineering team to a world class, transformational department. This position is a hybrid remote position and requires the employee to be on site three (3) days per week, generally starting Monday afternoon through Thursday morning each week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Hydraulic Cylinder Design

  • Design and develop new and custom products according to project specifications.
  • Determine designs requirements
  • Manage process engineering change notices to ensure smooth transitions and process optimizations.
  • Provide technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques and materials.

 

Estimating

  • Responsible for estimating all cylinder projects to ensure accurate and consistent bid to build process.
  • Fully understand manufacturing costs and incorporate accurate costs into all project estimates.
  • Prepare all item master listings and bills of materials to ensure accurate costs.
  • Continually improve material and manufacturing cost strategies by finding improved techniques in both areas.
  •  Work with customers, vendors, subcontractors, engineers and suppliers.
  • Provide technical and customer support for key accounts.
  • Ensure timely responses to customer inquiries.
  • Build and maintain excellent customer relationships.

 

Manufacturing & Engineering

  • Manage capital projects for the manufacturing facility.
  • Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Create short and long-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines to improve manufacturing cost and throughput
  • Manage continuous improvement activities to improve manufacturing processes and methods.

General Supervision

  • Coach and mentor various levels of engineers, and support personnel, not to exceed 5 direct reports.
  • Assist with recruitment, training, and development of staff.
  • Conduct performance reviews and set objectives for team members.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings to discuss project hurdles and progress.
  • Ensure all engineering practices adhere to industry standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other department heads to ensure alignment of company goals and drive collective success.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • This position is a hybrid remote position and requires the employee to be on site three (3) days per week.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 3+ years of progressive management experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people development skills.
  • Consistent track record for executing performance objectives and delivering results with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working in SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, Mastercam and Edgecam.
  • Ability to effectively develop and manage complex project plans from concept to production.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a directly related role.
  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Experience in design and manufacturing of hydraulic cylinders.
  • Experience in metals manufacturing, machine shops, and welding.
  • Experience in Made2Manage MRP Platform
  • Experience managing Capital Expense improvement projects.
