Does transforming jargon-heavy information into crisp, plain language delight you? We are seeking experienced copy editors to support our government clients undergoing major website redesigns. You’ll work alongside our team of talented Content Strategists, UX Designers, UX Researchers, and Accessibility Specialists and have access to user research to write data-informed content. We are looking for proactive, organized, and communicative copy editors who can meet deadlines and teach our clients how to write clearer content along the way.
Serve clients and contribute to human-centered design projects as a consultant
Maintain > 90% billable hours target
Edit and rewrite digital content following best practices for accessible and usable content.
Proofread content to uphold editorial standards, including style guide and voice and tone.
Create and update content within a CMS platform.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to turn complex/technical information into plain language, making it easy for users to understand.
Work independently and follow deadlines, being proactive in communicating if there’s an issue, and asking questions when instructions are unclear or if you need additional guidance.
Provide timely and actionable feedback to the content team to help improve our guidelines and compliance needs.
Apply your copywriting and editing expertise to client projects and deliverables as assigned
Contribute to internal copywriting and editing requests, as needed
At least two years of professional writing or editing experience in a communication role.
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, English, or another relevant field, Copy editing or writing certifications, or equivalent compelling work experience where you wrote crisp and engaging content.
Experience providing feedback to writers and web managers to improve user experience.
Experience receiving feedback and direction to improve voice and tone and writing style.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a close team.
Familiarity with major style guides like AP and MLA.
Familiarity with writing for the web best practices, including creating accessible content and plain language writing principles.
This is a part-time to full-time as-needed temporary W2 position (remote) with flexible scheduling starting ASAP through February 2025 with a potential option to extend. You will be assigned specific projects with detailed hours estimates for future weeks to assist with scheduling. At this time we estimate this role will start with 10-20 hours per week. Our team members work with their project and client teams to be available for collaboration and meetings, typically between 8 am and 2 pm Pacific Time. Other working hours are flexible and schedules can be pre-arranged with your manager.

Paid Time Off (PTO) - you'll accrue PTO for each hour you work. Full-time team members accrue approximately 15 PTO days per year
Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility. The range of starting pay for this role of contract Copy Editor is $32.00 - $45.00 per hour, plus benefits.
