Job Description
We are looking for a Superintendent to oversee and manage all phases of construction projects including project safety, coordinating workers, materials and equipment, supervising sub-contractors and staff, ensuring that specifications are being followed, and that work is proceeding on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
Typical Duties
- Primary liaison with project managers and engineers for the day-to-day construction activities of the project
- Perform in-depth review of all contract documents to become familiar with all details, notes, and requirements
- Monitor quality standards of all jobs, including contractor performance, and ensure that all quality assurance and company standards are being met
- Provide guidance in resolving construction problems encountered
- Provide technical assistance regarding construction methods and equipment
- Lead, supervise and develop all Nova field staff, including providing input on or completing performance appraisals
- Ensure strict adherence to ethics and compliance requirements at all times
- Monitors job safety and safety training; enforces safety programs and OSHA Standards as required and ensure subcontractor compliance with Nova standards
- Identify potential changed conditions and inform Project Engineer and Project Manager
- Assist with preparation of written reports and/or updates (internal and external) for management, client, and project team, to ensure a clear understanding of project status
- Manage and make decisions related to the performance of work related to scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control and trade employee staffing levels
- Oversee work among all trades to promote a coordinated project operation. Resolving local area problems regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, adequate labor and equipment, schedule and all other appropriate matters
- Act as liaison among owner’s representatives, inspection agencies, staff, and subcontractors
- Manage the General Conditions and General Requirements for the project to maintain budget
- Manage the work to ensure that it is completed in compliance with and conforms to the approved contract documents
- Other duties as assigned or needed
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in construction related field is preferred, but not required..
- Minimum five (5) years related experience as a Superintendent, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Extensive experience in large-scale commercial or industrial electrical projects is preferred
- Extensive experience with excavation in major roadways and traffic control is required.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of how to read and interpret general and subcontract documents, drawings and specifications, as well as construction means, methods and materials
- Knowledge of construction cost control and basic accounting procedures
- Strong management, leadership and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
- Thorough understanding of OSHA requirements and safe working practices
- Ability to work with customers to develop and maintain long-term relationships
- Computer skills and a familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programs
- Knowledge of Primavera scheduling desirable
- Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license
Working Environment/Physical Demands
- Exerting up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly. Work involves walking, sitting, or standing to a significant degree
- Work is performed at project (construction) sites and in an office and/or trailer
- Driving both vehicles and buggies/carts, if applicable
- Climbing in/out of vehicles, stairs, walkways, ladders, if applicable
- Work minimum of 40 hours =/week
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
- This is a full-time, overtime exempt position, starting second quarter 2025. Days and hours of work will depend on production schedule.
- Project is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Project duration is expected to be approximately 3 years. Travel opportunities to other projects are typically available after successful completion of a project.
Salary: $110,000 to $140,000 depending on experience, plus subsistence ($42,900), auto allowance, benefits, paid holidays, PTO and sick leave.
