Vice President of Communications

Position Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Vice President of Communications to lead the internal and external communications strategy. This senior role will be responsible for shaping and executing the firm's comprehensive communications approach across all channels. The ideal candidate will bring extensive financial services communications expertise, with a proven track record of managing both internal engagement and external media relations in high-stakes financial environments.

Core Responsibilities

External Communications & Media Strategy

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive external communications strategy that enhances the firm's reputation, supports fundraising efforts, and highlights investment success stories
  • Build and maintain relationships with top-tier financial media outlets, journalists, and industry influencers across national and international markets
  • Lead the creation of press releases, media pitches, and thought leadership materials that position our investment professionals as industry experts
  • Oversee crisis communications planning and response, ensuring the firm's reputation is protected during sensitive situations
  • Manage relationships with external PR agencies to ensure alignment with firm objectives and maximize effectiveness
  • Develop and implement internal communications strategies that effectively inform and engage employees across all levels of the organization
  • Partner with senior leadership to craft messaging around organizational changes, strategic initiatives, and company milestones
  • Ensure consistent messaging and voice across internal and external communications
  • Support portfolio company communications needs as they relate to firm announcements, transactions, and value creation initiatives
  • Oversee the development of high-quality content including investment announcements, quarterly investor letters, annual reports, and marketing materials
  • Collaborate with investment teams to translate complex investment strategies and performance data into clear, compelling narratives
  • Ensure all communications reflect the firm's brand identity, values, and strategic positioning
  • Develop executive communications including speeches, presentations, and talking points for leadership at industry events and investor meetings
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to firm leadership on communications-related initiatives

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive communications experience, with at least 5 years at a senior level in financial services (private equity, investment banking, asset management)
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful communications strategies in complex financial organizations
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, engaging content
  • Experience managing communications for sensitive transactions, fundraising activities, and investment announcements
  • Strong media relations background with established financial press relationship
  • Strategic thinker with excellent project management abilities and attention to detail
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in communications, journalism, or MBA preferred

  • Deep understanding of the private equity landscape, capital markets, and investment processes
  • Experience with investor communications and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency with media monitoring tools, analytics platforms, and content management systems
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Willingness to travel as needed for firm events, portfolio company visits, and industry conferences
